From Body to Body
In Tokyo, I brought the translator into the performance. While hiding behind fabric, the narrator (myself) shares personal memories of losing a friend, which the translator records on a paper cushion. The audience gets the story through both the words and the performer’s movements, layering the experience. The work reflects on what is lost from memory, and what changes when one language shifts into another.
In this work, language functions not only as a means of communication but as a medium through which meaning shifts, disappears, and is re-formed across Korean, English, and Japanese.
